Melee Combat is handled almost entirely by the DCS2 meter itself. It monitors if the person wearing the meter is holding down the LEFT MOUSE BUTTON while pressing either one of the cursor keys or the traditional W, A, S or D keys. If a player is actively using those key combinations and another player is within melee range, a damage message will be sent from the attacker's DCS to the target's DCS, inflicting standard melee damage.

Standard Melee Damage is set on the sim level. Each DCS2 Enabled Sim can specify how much damage a melee strike inflicts.

This being said, any melee weapon which animates (animated sword strike, animated punch, animated stab, etc) using the held down LEFT MOUSE BUTTON and cursor keys or WASD keys, will appear to inflict standard melee damage but it is in fact the meter itself issuing the melee damage commands.

Weapons which use that attack key sequence are considered "DCS2 Compatible" or "Works with DCS2". A majority of melee weapons use these key combinations to issue attack animation commands and therefore are said to work with DCS2.

For collision based weapons such as guns, bows, etc, DCS2 also handles collision based damage. As long as a physical object collides with an avatar wearing a DCS2 meter at a speed over 15 meters per second, it will inflict standard collision damage.

Standard Collision Damage is also set on the sim level. Each DCS2 Enabled Sim can specify how much damage a collision from a bullet or arrow or any other physical prim inflicts.
